I have been thinking a lot about this post for the last month. December 11th my husband turned the big FOUR OHHHH. Before I talk about the celebration I just want to give you a little back story on Robbie.
I remember being at our wedding reception over 15 yrs ago and feeling like such a lucky girl. I was such a baby.... only 19 yrs old. Robbie was just shy of turning 25. He was older and was pretty established compared to most. I was so spoiled and I knew it. He had a good job, we had a cute apartment, he had a brand new car and had purchased a really nice used car for me. Robbie had bought us brand new furniture and we were so lucky to start off so put together. In those days I thought a lot about my previous college roommates that started off their marriages living in basement apartments with one old beater car between them. They had thirty dollar couches they had rescued from the Salvation Army and just scraped by. I am not going to say that we have not had our hard financial times, but have not struggles as bad as so many we know.
As the years have passed Robbie has always been such a good provider. He has always taken care of me and our family. He works so hard and I have always appreciated that about him. So 15 years later I am shocked to admit that one of the downfalls of marrying someone older than you means they turn old sooner than you expect. Robbie probably hates that I am calling him old at 40. He really is in such good shape. He can still rock on the wakeboard, he beat a 20 year old at the hurtles on the Xbox Kinect and a still has a booty that never disappoints. It's just weird to think that he is 10 yrs from being 50. WOW!
Anyway, for his birthday his sister Kim and I decided to throw him a surprise party. Kim had some time share offers available and was able to book two great suites in Las Vegas. This allowed us to invite six of our closest couple friends for a weekend together. Our suites accommodated everyone and had full kitchens so we could cook. I made sure everyone got the dates early to put on their calendars and then sent out invites just a few weeks early. It was so fun to see Robbie's face when he realized that it was not just him and I spending the weekend to celebrate his birthday. The weekend was amazing. The girls shopped, the boys did go-carts and boy stuff , we went out for dinner and stayed up way too late every night. It was such a fun, kid-free weekend. I think Robbie felt pretty special and he really deserved it.
Here are just a couple pictures. They really do not include everyone that was there or show just how much fun we had. Love you Robbie ....... even if you are kind of old!

Dang that is OLD! Haha. I'm pretty close behind and Jason is always calling me old so don't feel bad. We know it's like a term of endearment. Looks like a great birthday weekend! Happy belated birthday, Robbie!
He's totally a young 40! I hope he is sure to throw an awesome bash for you in 15 years when you turn 40!
