Heidi's Year

These pictures show just a snippet of her latest incident.

This has been such a crazy year for our little Heidi. I thought having a girl would be all about femininity, playing quietly and being cautious. It turns out that I could not have been farther from the truth. While she is certainly girly and is a pretty quiet little thing, she can still really get pretty rough and tumble. We have begun calling this year Heidi's Year. Our poor little girl has hurt so many times this year it is getting hard to keep track. Let's make a quick list.

Februrary: Got a crazy virus that had 103+ temps for 11 days straight. We ran out of Tylenol and Motrin twice those 11 days. She was one sick girly.

March: While I was folding laundry on my bed she took a spill and hit the nightstand. She split open her eyebrow and it needed to be glued closed.

June: While I am getting eggs out of the fridge to make waffles she climbed up on the counter. Just as I turned to see her she slipped and landed on the HOT waffle iron and received 2nd degree burns from elbow to wrist on her arm.

August: While watching Tate and Heidi play on my bed Heidi took a spill and hit her two front teeth on my headboard. It split open her lip (not bad enough for stitches) and shoved her two front teeth back in her mouth. After a lot of blood and consulting with a dentist we had to hold her down and pull her two front teeth back into position. It was a worry filled two weeks while we waited to see if her teeth would die. Luckily they have remained healthy.

September: six months ago Robbie cut down a tree in our backyard. We have needed to get the stump ground but have been lazy about it. Over the Summer it started growing branches from the base. It sits only a few feet from where the slide ends on our playset. Well just last week Heidi came down the slide with her brother hot on her heels. As she landed his feet hit her back and she went face first into the sharp branches. We feel so lucky she did not lose an eye. The gouge below her eye was pretty bad.

One other crazy thing she had go on this year is weird passing out episodes. Luckily I have seen this happen with my niece or I would be totally freaked out. Anyway, anytime Heidi hits her head or falls hard she passes out starts to turn blue and her eyes roll back in her head. That has happened about four times this year also. This girl is going to give me gray hair. I need to say a quick thank you to my niece Quincey who had the same condition as a toddler. If it wasn't for her I may never have known that when she hits her head she releases a large amount of adrenaline that constricts blood flow to the brain and causes her to pass out. Quincey outgrew it by four and we are praying that Heidi will too.

Ok, I know what you are all thinking.... Where were you when all this happened? Right? Seriously I was right there when every single one of these things happened. Poor Heidi. It has been a crazy year for her! I think Santa may be bringing you a helmet.

Wow! What a year for Heidi. Hopefully next year will be much more accident free.

Whoa! Maybe it's a little too late for the helmet--how about a padded house? That tooth-pulling-back incident is going to give me nightmares! I'm so glad cute Heidi Girl isn't any worse for the wear.
