Our vacation this year was about the same as last year. While our kids are small we needed to find a vacation spot that fit our needs. Last year we decided to try renting a condo at the beach for a week. We looked all over Southern CA for a reasonable beach house or condo and ended up in a large condo complex in Oceanside. Turns out that it was perfect for us. The complex is beautiful. The grounds are amazing and it has a wonderful heated pool. The best part is that the complex is oceanfront. We love that we can get up in the morning, cook our own breakfast, pack lunches, and head to the beach.
My kids absolutely love the beach. Blake splashes in the waves, boogie boards and skim boards the entire time. It was hard to get him to come in to even eat lunch. Tate happily plays in the sand or digs for sand crabs. This year he found the biggest sand crabs I have ever seen. They were seriously about the size of a silver dollar. After Tate kept putting them on my feet or in my hands without me expecting it I had to have a talk with him. It went like this, "Tate, don't do that! Don't you know that sand crabs are the cock roaches of the ocean?" Anyway, Peachie loved the beach too. She did her fair share of digging in the sand and when it was time to nap she would snuggle right into the bed we made her under the umbrella and fall fast to sleep.
After a few days of this I thought they would get tired of it but they never did. There was no complaining, fighting or whining..... just relaxing!
While there we did a few other things. We went to San Diego to visit Sea World one day. Another day we rode the Coaster (local train line) into San Diego. It took us to Old Town and we were also able to catch the city bus to Belmont Park. My kids got to see some interesting people. My favorite was the man who tried to bring his shopping cart onto the bus with him. Thank goodness the bus driver squashed that! Here's another funny thing that happened down at Belmont Park while waiting for the bus. A group of thugs walked by. They looked rough. Each seemed to be wearing some piece of Celtics attire. Blake quickly noticed them and without warning shouted, "Celtics Suck!" I have never seen my husband move so fast. He grabbed a hold of Blake and made it very clear that we were not in Utah anymore. I am still cracking up about it because Robbie was convinced they were packing. By the looks of them I would not be surprised.
Overall it was a fantastic week. We have already picked out the condo we will rent next Summer. Looks like it could become a long standing family tradition.
