It's no secret that we keep our son Blake really busy. He is pretty adventurous and always looking for a good time. My husband does a good job at always finding fun things to fill his time. Last year he got Blake started on skim boarding. Other than buying a board, it's free. Just haul yourself down to the beach or in our case a shallow place in the river and go for it. Turns out that Blake is pretty good at it.
Just so you all know, Blake is pretty good at just about everything he tries. He's just one of those kids that has a lot of physical ability. I am not bragging here. There are days that I wish he could be humbled by being the worst at something but it rarely happens when sports are involved. I used to feel bad about it because I did not want him to think he is better than others. I have decided to change my view and be more encouraging with Blake he needs that support from me. I have always been a little apprehensive at cheering him on too much because he can get pretty cocky. I think that is the part that drives me crazy and worries me. I realize now the best I can do is love him and cheer for him, make sure he cheers for others, and get on him when he starts bragging.
Anyway, this weekend was the annual Virgin River Skim Board Competition. Blake was entered in the 9 and under class. They broke the categories up in three sections for his age group. They were: Longest Ride, Most spins, and Best trick. Blake did awesome. I was so proud of him and at the end of the competition he came away with 1st place in the most spins category. He was disappointed that he did not get the best trick, but there is always next year.

Way to go, Blake! Skimboarding looks so fun!
Jason said he did great! I do think that being cocky is better than being a weenie any day! So here's a shout out to cocky!! Let's face it, he's good!
So cool. Never even heard of this sport. i need to get my son doing it.
Looks like you have had a fun summer. We are loving our summer, mostly doing nothing but it's been so fun. We need to get out to Utah again sometime soon.
